CHRIS SYMONS (CHAIRMAN):
Chris has been a resident of Carlswald for over 23 years, and he and Marian have both been active in residential associations for over 35 years. Chris was a founding member of Carlswald Plot Watch (the predecessor of CRA) and has served on the Ward Committee and as Chairman of the Community Policing Forum. He was schooled at Hilton College and has several engineering and business degrees. He is an entrepreneur and has operated his own business Econsys, (specialising in software development and print management) since 1986. WILFRED MOLE (VICE-CHAIRMAN):
Wilfred and his mother purchased their property in Carlswald in 1959 to graze cattle and moved to Carlswald in the 1960s. He was educated at St Johns College and Wits University. He is semi-retired but remains committed to regenerative and organic farming practices on family farms in the Free State (Sandstone Heritage Estate) and the UK (Pertwood). Wilfred is a collector of antique steam-drive equipment, notably narrow-gauge steam-driven locomotives and celebrates this at the annual Sandstone Festival where visitors from all over the world come to experience steam travel on the 40km of private railway track amongst spectacular surroundings. Wilf is a preservationist with a collection of of antique SAR Steam Locomotives dating back to the 1800s. The annual Sandstone Steam Festival attracts visitors from all over the world come to experience steam travel on the 30km of private railway track amongst spectacular surroundings. SUE-RINA HAUPT (Development, Infrastructure and Membership)
Sue-Rina has made Carlswald AH her home since 2011. She studied Accounting at University of Pretoria and has a B.Compt (Hons) Accounting degree from UNISA which she obtained whilst completing her articles at an audit firm. She started the accounting and bookkeeping departments for this firm, before venturing off to work for a film equipment rental company as Financial Manager. Honing her skills, Sue-Rina then moved into Business Development where she designed, implemented and monitored processes and procedures for the same company. Wife to Johan and now a stay-at-home-mom, she enjoys running their property portfolio and has recently made herself available to assist with matters important to the CRA, joining the committee in 2021. suerina.haupt@gmail.com +27 82 840 5172

PETER KASTNER (Membership)
Peter was born in Salzburg, Austria and came to Africa in 1973 and has lived in Carlswald since 1992. By now he refers to himself as “de-tribalised”! A Hotel School graduate, Peter operated and managed hotels and casino resorts in Africa & Australasia. He opened the renowned Sun City with Sol Kerzner and operated the first casino license there. After this he set up his own hotel marketing and airline catering businesses. Currently he involves himself with the Stanford Hills Estate family farm and the administration of his wife Lynnmari’s Clinic, The Goddess Factor Medical Aesthetics. MARIAN SYMONS (Secretary, Admin and Financial)
Marian has been involved in the Carlswald community since 2002 when Carlswald Plot Watch was instituted. Her role in CPW has been as treasurer and administration, although she is a qualified book-keeper her first passion is designing, her first qualification was in architectural design. With Chris’ assistance they have renovated houses. Marian has been involved in Graphic design and desktop publishing which involved using her CAD and computer skills. Marian is employed full time at the Rivonia Catholic Church where many of her skills have been put to the test. She has a soft spot for community involvement, she spent five years serving on the Sector 2 CPF committee as secretary. As a family they spend as much time as possible exploring this beautiful country and beyond, camping in remote and rustic areas. JOIN CRA
A residents’ association has a more powerful voice than an individual when dealing with community issues and notably with the City of Johannesburg. However, in order to represent you we need you to sign up as members and pay a nominal annual membership fee of R200 as this is a legal requirement in terms of our registration as a non-profit company.
Payment options are as follows:
CASH directly to Peter Kastner/Marian Symons or one of the designated committee members at one of the CRA activities.
EFT to Carlswald Residents Association, Standard Bank, Account 202464342 with your surname and plot and street address. Be sure to send your proof of payment to carlswaldresidents@outlook.com and your membership card will be delivered to you soonest.
